How we make money
Last updated: 17 October 2026
MTD Radar is free to use. We cover our costs in three ways: affiliate links, sponsorships and featured listings. This page explains each one, and the rules we follow so they never decide what you see in our lists.
Affiliate links
Some links to software providers are affiliate links. If you click one and then sign up or buy, the provider (or an affiliate network working for them) may pay us a commission.
- Every affiliate link is labelled “(affiliate link)” next to it.
- Affiliate links go through an address on our site that starts with
/go/. They are taggedrel="sponsored"for search engines. - Any page with an affiliate link shows a short disclosure near the link.
- The commission is paid by the provider or the affiliate network, not by you.
Sponsored and featured placements
Providers can pay for a placement marked “Sponsored” or “Featured”. These placements:
- are always clearly labelled;
- appear in their own space, outside our product table;
- never change the order of the table, or which products appear in it.
What money never changes
- The list is complete. We list every product HMRC recognises for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, whether or not we earn from it.
- The order is neutral. The table is A to Z by default. You can re-sort or filter it yourself.
- HMRC’s data is shown as published. Product features come from HMRC’s software finder, checked daily.
- Our notes are our own. Prices, “really free?” checks, pros and cons are researched from public sources, with the date we checked them. No provider can pay to change them.
Independence
MTD Radar is independent and not affiliated with HMRC. HMRC doesn’t endorse any product we list, and being on HMRC’s list isn’t an HMRC recommendation.
