Has HMRC stopped publishing its MTD software list?
Short answer: partly. HMRC took its table of MTD for Income Tax software off GOV.UK on 31 July 2025, so some sites now say the list has gone. It hasn’t: every recognised product is still listed inside HMRC’s software finder. It just sits behind a question rather than on a page of its own. At our last daily check it listed 173 products.
What changed, and when
The change history of GOV.UK’s Choose the right software for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax records both steps:
- 31 July 2025: “A link to a new software finder tool to get a personalised list of software options for your specific needs has been added … The table of software listings has been removed.”
- 13 July 2026: “The ‘Software products in development’ section has been removed because they are now listed in the find software tool.”
GOV.UK says: “All software listed has been through HMRC’s recognition process. HMRC does not recommend any product or software provider.”
How to see HMRC’s full list
- Open Find software that works with Making Tax Digital for Income Tax.
- Choose Show a list of all available software and let me select filters for my needs.
- Use the filters to narrow it down.
The finder’s other options ask questions about your income to suggest software, or check whether software you already use is compatible.
What HMRC’s list doesn’t show
HMRC’s listings record the features each software provider has told HMRC about. They don’t show:
- prices, or whether a free version files your tax return as well as your quarterly updates;
- what’s changed: the finder shows today’s list, not which products were added or removed, or when.
MTD Radar fills those gaps. Our table lists every product in HMRC’s finder, checked daily, with researched prices and free-version notes. The change log records every product added, removed or changed, with the date. See how we collect our data.
Questions
Does HMRC still publish a list of MTD for Income Tax software?
Not as a table on GOV.UK. HMRC removed that table on 31 July 2025 and replaced it with a software finder tool. The full list is still there: choose "Show a list of all available software" on the finder's first page.
Where is HMRC's list of software products in development?
On 13 July 2026 HMRC removed the 'Software products in development' section from GOV.UK because those products are now listed in the find software tool.
Does HMRC recommend any MTD software?
No. GOV.UK says all listed software has been through HMRC's recognition process and that HMRC does not recommend any product or software provider.
Does HMRC's list show prices?
No. HMRC's listings show what each product can do, as the software provider told HMRC, but not prices or the conditions of free versions.
